Whether you’re a foodie looking for something special, or just looking for a good pub to have a few drinks and a bite to eat, this post has you covered. There are some great eateries close to Penny End, but these are our favourites:


1. The Royal Yew, Dean

The Royal Yew is renowned for its Cow Pie and boasts a fantastic a la carte menu with plenty of choice to suit all budgets and tastes. The pub offers local real ales, award-winning local spirits, and a great range of beers & wines from around the world, so there is something for everyone. 2. The Moon and Sixpence, Cockermouth (and Keswick)

The Moon and Sixpence is one of the gems of Cumbria and the Lake District. Not only does it serve the best coffee and cakes, but the cafe offers a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and a sense of community. The baristas are perfectionists and the knowledge they bring to the business is drawn from the best restaurants, hospitality industry and the international coffee business. The Moon and Sixpence is a must-visit.

3. The Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater

The Kirkstile Inn is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Inside are low beamed rooms with welcoming open fires, good food, and friendly service. The team of six chefs prepare unpretentious, home-cooked meals and place a great emphasis on local Cumbrian and Lake District suppliers. With a seasonal changing menu, there is something for everyone - including vegans. The Kirkstile has a superb carefully selected wine list which includes 13 wines by the glass, and an extensive range of gins, whiskies and other spirits. There is also a selection of real ales available from their own brewery, such as the award-winning Loweswater Gold. To avoid disappointment, it is recommended to reserve a table in advance - especially during busy times.


4. Fermento, Cockermouth

Fermento is a charming and cozy shop front Italian family restaurant and takeaway pizza place with friendly and helpful service. Everything is designed in order to serve seasonal produce, with wine, drinks and main ingredients imported directly from Italy. There is also a small deli section where you can buy authentic and high quality products. The menu offers a range of delicious crispy base pizza variations, with Italian regional flavours, an extensive drinks menu, and dessert options. It is advisable to book for Friday dinners as it can get full.


5. Old Keswickian Fish & Chips Restaurant, Keswick

If you’re looking for a sit-in fish and chips restaurant, the Old Keswickian in Keswick is a great option. The restaurant offers traditional fish & chips as well as other seafood such as scampi, poached and smoked fish, and a variety of meaty or vegetarian dishes. There are also front row seats overlooking the market and Moot Hall, so you can people-watch while you eat.
